Origins in Tianjin
The institution began in 1921 as Tianjin Industrial and Commercial University. Its early identity developed around undergraduate education and the preparation of students for commerce and industry.
Becoming Hebei University
After several institutional transformations, the university received the name Hebei University in 1960. It relocated to Baoding in 1970, establishing its long-term home in Hebei Province.
The growth of medical education
In 2005, Hebei’s staff medical college and its affiliated hospital were integrated into Hebei University. This milestone connected medical education and hospital practice within the university’s development.
A continuing academic mission
A 2018 agreement between the Ministry of Education and Hebei Province established the university’s joint development framework. Its current work spans academic teaching, research and international exchange.
