China Student Visa Guide

Organize the study documentation and immigration steps for your travel to China.

Updated 7 October 2026

Study documentation first

Admitted students use the Admission Notice and Confirmation Form for Study in China to support the student visa process. Check the current application requirements of the Chinese mission or visa centre handling your application.

The appropriate study visa

HBU’s long-term degree study instructions refer to an X1 student visa. Shorter study arrangements may involve a different category. Apply for the category suitable to your approved study period and documentation.

After entering China

X1 students must complete the study residence-permit process within 30 days of entry. Follow university instructions and the responsible immigration authority’s requirements. Do not leave this until the end of the permitted period.

Prepare carefully

Check passport validity, admission details, photographs, health records and any financial evidence required for your application location. Requirements can vary; a university admissions checklist is not a complete consular checklist.

Travel and registration

HBU does not accept registration on a non-student visa. Register during the period stated in your admission notice and contact the university if a delay arises.
