Clinical Training

Clinical preparation combines skills, supervision, ethical conduct and safe practice.

Updated 7 October 2026

Preparation for the hospital environment

Clinical learning requires more than subject knowledge. Students need to understand confidentiality, patient dignity, infection prevention and their limits as learners. A supervised setting allows theory to be applied with appropriate guidance.

Training for international students

HBU’s international Clinical Medicine internship preparation covers departmental rotations, leave and absence rules, graduation assessment and clinical operating standards. These requirements frame a structured learning period rather than unrestricted independent practice.

Communication and occupational protection

Chinese communication helps students understand patients and clinical instructions. Occupational protection and travel safety also form part of internship preparation. Students should follow the procedures set by the supervising hospital and academic team.

Confirming your placement

Before the clinical stage, obtain your approved placement, supervisor, rotation plan and assessment requirements. Specific departments and rotation durations should be confirmed for your cohort rather than inferred from another student’s experience.
