Make language part of the timetable
For a Chinese-taught medical program, language study needs a regular place in your week. Short, consistent sessions can help consolidate vocabulary alongside longer reading and listening practice. Set goals you can review rather than measuring progress only by hours spent.
Separate test and practical skills
HSK preparation supports a defined assessment goal. Classroom communication, understanding instructions and explaining a question need practice as well. Use speaking and listening activities alongside written exercises so that an examination score is supported by usable communication.
Introduce medical language carefully
Build general language foundations before trying to memorize large lists of technical terms. As academic teaching progresses, maintain a subject glossary with definitions and context. Check terminology with teaching staff and avoid translating clinical instructions by guesswork.
Ask for help early
If language difficulty affects attendance, comprehension or practical learning, discuss it with your academic contact. A study plan should be adjusted before the problem becomes a safety or assessment issue. HSK 4 is required before major study in HBU’s 2026 Clinical Medicine pathway; continued learning remains valuable afterwards.
